Since the pandemic hit, Psalm 91 has been in the forefront of most Bible quoting Christians. It is a song of promise, protection, comfort, and care. I was going back through my journal and discovered a study from May 2018:
We do this (TPT):
Sit enthroned under the shadow of Shaddai
Live our lives within the shadow of God Most High (our secret hiding place)
Delight in God
God will do this (TPT):
We are hidden in the strength of God Most High
He’s the hope that holds me
Stronghold to shelter me
He will rescue me from every hidden trap of the enemy
He will protect me from false accusation and any deadly curse
His massive arms are wrapped around me, protecting me. I can run under his covering of majesty and hide
His arms of faithfulness are a shield keeping me from harm
I will never worry about an attack of demonic forces at night
Nor fear a spirit of darkness coming against me
Whether by night or by day, demonic danger will not trouble me
Nor will the powers of evil launched against me
Even in a time of disaster, with thousands and thousands being killed, I will remain unscathed and unharmed
I will be a spectator as the wicked perish in judgment
I will always be shielded from harm; how then could evil prevail against me or disease infect me
God sends angels with special orders to protect me wherever I go, defending me from all harm
If I walk into a trap, they’ll (angels) be there for me and keep me from stumbling
I’ll even walk unharmed among the fiercest powers of darkness, trampling every one of them beneath my feet
He will greatly protect me
He will set me in a high place, safe and secure before His face
He will answer my cry for help every time I pray
I will find and feel His presence even in my time of pressure and trouble
He will be my glorious hero
He will give me a feast
I will be satisfied with a full life and with all that He does for me
I will enjoy the fullness of my salvation
I think we get the better bargain; we commit to three actions and he promises almost triple in return! And, what is asked of us isn’t taxing - sit like royalty under his shadow, be hidden in his strength, intimately follow his voice and lead. We are asked to delight, praise, honor, and respect Him - the Lord, God of the Universe - and he gives us promises - promises of rescue, promises of protection, promises of guidance, promises of help, promises of presence and promises of an abundant life!
Quite the exchange wouldn’t you say?!
Now, the challenge. Do we believe it? Do we shape our lives, our commentary, our actions to fit what we read above, or do we run, hide, and quiver in fear? Honestly, I have done the latter - quivering, that is. Fear has broken through and I have broken down. But, I readjust. I refocus. I remember. I recall. I realign myself with God’s truth, not mans, and dig in my toes to stand, to persevere, to strengthen myself in the Lord, and remain.
Exodus 14:13 (AMP) Then Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid! Take your stand [be firm and confident and undismayed] and see the salvation of the Lord which He will accomplish for you today; for those Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see again.
I love how this message is written. Three things we do and then we get the abundance of God's blessings. God is so generous, so good. Thank you for this perspective today, Dena. It is so good to reflect on His goodness and generosity as I begin my day. He truly speaks Word of life to you and I appreciate you sharing them so much! ~ Lori
